How the LinkAlarm service works

At each site check, the LinkAlarm service compiles a comprehensive report on problems with your site and allows you and your team to quickly inspect and correct any errors.

It works like this:

• The LinkAlarm service regularly scans your sites and examines all accessible web pages and their links to other locations.
• After each scan, LinkAlarm's checking engine creates a personalized report for you stored on one of the LinkAlarm servers.
• When your report is ready, an e-mail notification is sent to nominated members of your team.
• You and your team can read the report using a standard web browser. The report is an HTML document, formatted to make your analysis fast and efficient.
• After fixing any problems reported by LinkAlarm, you can quickly recheck your site to make sure that all problems have been resolved.

Comprehensive Reports

Your LinkAlarm report is a complete analysis of the links on your site and has been designed to help you find problems fast. Each report provides a count of how many pages were processed and how many errors were found on the designated site.

A report summarizes all the errors that were detected, and breaks down the results according to the error type (e.g., Error 404: File not found), and whether the errors are for links internal to your sites or external links.

Other views of the report make it easy to find the information you need. For example, after checking the site summary, you can link to the Pages with Alarms summary to see the pages on which problems have been detected. The Alarm Categories page summarizes problems sorted by error type.

You can download the raw report information for further processing by a spreadsheet, database or other application.

You can even view a historical summary of audits to verify service levels over time.

Customize to your requirements

The LinkAlarm service can be customized to your specific requirements. You can configure separate reports for each site or for just part of a site. You control the frequency that checks are performed and you can specify anything from a one-off check to a daily site inspection. Finally, you can choose to receive full details of each report or only be alerted when errors are detected.

Once you've customized the LinkAlarm service to your requirements, you simply wait for the regular reports to be sent to you. Set and forget.
